Printed Fabric Historic Period Theme: Wiener Werkstatte
In Austria, the Arts and Craft Movement took place, and in 1903 Jose Hoffmann and Koloman moser founded Wiener Werstatte. The followers of William Morris proposed a design shop like the medieval guild, but Wiener Werkstatte pursued a design that combined with the 20th century industry. Wiener Werkstatte, with its pragmatic attention, then has a profound impact on the pragmatism of the Bauhaus.
The Wiener Werkstatte textile pattern design served as a bridge between the Arts and Craft Movement and the modern attitude of Art Decor. Wiener Werkstatt produced a wide variety of products ranging from metal products, leather goods, book binding, and cabinets to ceramics, carpets, wallpaper, clothing, embroidered, woven or printed fabrics. In textile design pattern, they were influenced by the Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, especially the influence of the geometric design.
